Miss Linda Lawrence
I was born and raised in the little country town of Abbeville located in Henry County. My parents are Mr. and Mrs. James A. Lawrence, and I have one older sister, Sara, and three older brothers Jamie, Charlie, and Fred. Although I have no biological children, I have a HOST of nieces and nephews who keep me VERY busy and involved! I love spending quality time with my immediate family as much as possible! We have sooooo much fun joking around, laughing, and remembering the good ol' days.
In my spare time, I enjoy working with my family at Momma's soul-food restaurant (RUBY'S) in Abbeville! Our slogan is "Taste the Difference! It's All Good!" Golden-fried chicken, baked chicken, and homemade peach cobbler are our everyday menu items. Other mouth-watering dishes include chicken dressing (not Stove Top stuffing), squash casserole, fresh white peas/ butterbeans, fresh-outta-da garden collard greens, banana pudding, butternut cake, blackberry pie topped with Blue Bell ice cream...... the list goes on and on!! Hungry yet?
I proudly served in the Alabama National Guard for eleven years (1993-2004)! My home unit was in Dothan, Alabama at the 1203rd Engr. Bn. During my military career, I was in the Supply Section as well as Battalion S-4. Although I really enjoyed the experience and training that were granted to me, I decided not to reenlist. Serving a year in Iraq prior to my re-enlistment date contributed to this decision.
Last but certainly not least, I crossed into THE Dynamic Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in Spring '06 (Breathe Easy- #8)! "I AM" an active member and currently serving as the Treasurer of the illustrious Dothan Alumnae Chapter......enough said!
My teaching career began in 2000. I taught sixth grade at New Brockton Elementary School for four years (2000-2004). After serving a year in Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom in Mosul, Iraq; 2003-2004), I immediately resumed my career at Harrand Creek Elementary. I taught fourth grade for ten years (2004-2014). Loved it!! Fortunately, I have received the "Teacher of the Year" award twice (2004-2005 and 2012-2013)! What an humbling privilege! In addition, I was nominated by one of my students for the "Apple of the Week" award which has presented by the 96.7 radio station in May 2013.
During the latter part of my fourth grade teaching experience, Harrand Creek departmentalized in grades 4-6. Fortunately, I was given the task to teach only Math for our "block" schedule which inadvertently addressed the needs of our students based on their level of understanding and enhanced my ability to elaborate on several strategies so the students will be successful in computation skills and higher-order thinking.
Currently, I am HCE's Reading Specialist/ Instructional Partner and will collaborate with our teachers across all grade levels across the curriculum. As we consistently work together, we will venture through the best teaching practices and strategies that will improve our students' ability to reach higher-order thinking skills in all subject areas, predominantly in K-3 Reading. Our mission is to prepare student graduates to be successful in realizing their personal, educational, and professional ambitions! Let's go T.E.A.M.! Together Everyone Achieves More!
